Today, I’d like to shift my perspective a bit and talk about the importance of “sharing” and “expression” (output) in life and work, based on my own experiences.
I believe many people have their own aspirations, things they want to achieve, and goals they want to realize. Especially in the fields of design and product creation, I feel that the act of putting those ideas out into the world is just as important as the ideas themselves. We, too, place a high priority on output when creating our compact and mini wallets.
The reason I feel this way is that I’ve seen many people over the years who, despite having great ideas, hold onto them and let time pass without ever sharing them. It’s not uncommon for people to get stuck in a situation where nothing moves forward because they keep thinking, “I’ll do it someday” or “I’ll wait until I’m a little more prepared.”
It’s natural to want to release something of high quality right from the start. However, in reality, it’s rare to produce a perfect output from the very beginning. Rather, isn’t it generally the case that precision improves through a cycle of bringing an idea to life, releasing it to the world, identifying new challenges, and then refining it?
When you think about it this way, you could say that the real start begins the “moment you share it for the first time.” By sharing your work, you expose it to a wider audience and create opportunities to receive diverse feedback. Furthermore, by reevaluating your work in a real-world context, you can recognize both its strengths and its weaknesses.
This cumulative process ultimately leads to raising the work to a level recognized by both yourself and others. While this may not apply to every case, there are numerous examples—including our own—of people who have moved forward through this very process.
First, put it out there. I believe that first step is what sets everything else in motion. It is only after you put something out there that you receive further input.
