In Japan’s crowdfunding industry, the categories of slim, compact wallets, mini wallets, and minimalist wallets have now become the most fiercely competitive market.

According to our research, around 2013—during the early days of crowdfunding—there were fewer than 100 compact wallet projects per year. However, after our “Tenuis Zipper Type” slim compact wallet, launched in 2019, generated a massive response and raised 44 million yen, the market accelerated rapidly.By 2024, the number had reached approximately 600, and we can expect that figure to be even higher today.
Many of the products currently dominating the market tout a design where “cards and coins do not overlap.” While some of these certainly feature excellent design, it often appears that most are simply following in the footsteps of a few popular and successful companies, continuously imitating similar designs.
We at SOLAHAHPU also have products with similar designs, but we do not position them as the core of our brand. This is because we believe that in a “saturated” market where an industry is flooded with similar products, introducing yet another similar item will not bring about any real change in users’ lives.
As long as we continue to operate as a brand, we cannot ignore commercial success. However, rather than clinging to past successes or imitating others, we constantly seek new directions and continue to develop products that are different from anything that has come before. I believe it is precisely this “spirit of challenge and action” that allows a brand to continue to shine.
