When striving for the ultimate in thinness in a minimalist wallet, one of the key factors is the selection of materials for each component. To maintain functionality while keeping the wallet thin, SOLAHANPU’s thin, compact wallets—the Tenuis and Tynd—utilize PP (polypropylene), a material that offers exceptionally high bending strength on its own.
Material Properties Supporting the Hybrid Structure
SOLAHANPU’s products are hybrid minimalist wallets that combine Italian leather, canvas, and goatskin with this Japanese-made PP. Thanks to its excellent elasticity and durability, PP plays a crucial role in various parts of the wallet.
- It is used in the zipper-type coin divider of the Tenuis and in the opening and closing mechanism of the flap-type coin compartment. Despite being only 0.X mm thick, it is highly resistant to repeated opening and closing.
- Tynd: In a special structure that prevents cards and coins from overlapping, it functions as a core material to maintain the internal shape.
- Common functions: Dividers for hidden pockets, etc.
The Reliability of Japanese-Made PP Material
During a period when production was outsourced overseas, we were sometimes forced to use local materials, resulting in a time when the durability of the materials themselves was not entirely reliable.
However, we now use only carefully selected, 100% Japanese-made PP material. This material is highly resistant to fatigue from bending and will not crack or break easily under normal daily use. These are reliable parts produced with advanced technology.
Precision Tools for the Cashless Era
Since we can specify thicknesses down to a few millimeters during production, this material is ideal for incorporating all necessary functions while maintaining the slim profile of a compact wallet. SOLAHANPU wallets are, in a sense, hybrid wallets, crafted by combining several materials to serve their respective functions.
