It’s been 10 years since we started selling SOLAHANPU wallets in Japan, and we’ve come to realize something. Even though we’ve consistently focused on developing thin, compact, and sleek wallets, we’ve actually never once created a mini version of a thin wallet like the Tenuis.
The Tenuis series has always prioritized thinness—so much so that it’s often compared using the unit “mm.” For that reason, we’ve developed it with a slightly different approach than we would for a mini wallet designed to be small. While prioritizing thinness and prioritizing small size may seem similar, there are actually many differences between the two.
From around 2017 to 2019, we also offered the Litt and Litt2 trifold wallets. While these were compact and easy to carry, trifold wallets could be considered a separate category altogether. When you think about it that way, it means we haven’t yet seriously produced a bifold mini wallet or a “mini” compact wallet that truly embodies the Tenuis philosophy.
Recently, I’ve started thinking about trying my hand at a mini version of Tenuis. The idea is still a bit vague in my mind, but I’m gradually sketching out the details.
• What size will it be
? • How many cards and coins will it hold
? • Should it be a bifold, or a different design
? • Should the material be leather or canvas
? • Is it for travel or everyday use?
I plan to gradually bring this to life while sorting out these points. Perhaps a new kind of mini wallet will emerge—neither a money clip nor a standalone coin purse—but a fresh alternative. I think it would be interesting to discover a new direction by combining a slim profile with a mini wallet.
