If you used the first-generation Tenuis released in 2016, you'll know that a paper-like material called Tyvek is used inside the outer canvas.
At first glance, it looks just like paper, but it's actually a highly functional material called **Tyvek®**, developed by DuPont in the United States. This time, I'd like to explore why this material was specifically chosen for the inside of the wallet and unravel its unique characteristics.

1. Amazing "lightness" and "strength"
The most striking feature of Tyvek is its incredible lightness; you barely feel its weight. However, it's virtually impossible to tear by hand (unless there's a pre-cut section). Its true nature lies in a nonwoven fabric made of densely packed polyethylene fibers that are intricately interwoven. It's used in protective clothing and building materials (breathable waterproof sheets), and possesses exceptional strength against tension and tearing.
2. Water-resistant and breathable
It looks like paper, but in reality, its strength doesn't diminish even when wet. It repels water droplets while allowing moisture to pass through, so it's a waterproof material that repels water but doesn't get wet.
3. Wrinkles and creases increase.
Initially, it has a flat, paper-like texture, but wrinkles and creases will definitely increase with use and folding. This is where opinions will differ, and it's also where opinions will diverge on whether it's suitable as a wallet material. SOLAHANPU hasn't used it since Tenuis1, but other manufacturers also produce casual wallets using Tyvek.
4. The challenge of ultimate "thinness"
What Tenuis strives for is "thinness." If thick material is used for the internal dividers of the wallet, the entire wallet will bulge. Tyvek is extremely thin yet strong enough to withstand the insertion and removal of cards, so it was adopted as the "unsung hero" that supports the sleek structure of the first Tenuis. We may use this material again in the future if we have a product idea that suits it.
